By the year 2030, two out of three new Honda vehicles will be electric, so says Honda CEO Takahiro Hachigo.
Honda is already well known for making fuel-efficient gasoline vehicles, but this reputation will soon expand to include a large selection of hybrids, plug-in hybrids, all-electric vehicles, and even hydrogen fuel cell vehicles like the Honda Clarity FCV.
Hachigo plans to bring a plug-in hybrid to North American markets by 2018.
In 15 years, half of Honda's global sales will be hybrids and plug-ins, and another 15 percent will be other types of electric or FCVs. "We want to focus our development resources for electrification," says Hachigo.
Falling gas prices in the past few years have stalled sales on greener models, with more customers choosing less efficient SUVs. Nonetheless, Honda is committed to making choices that will benefit the environment, and keep drivers away from the fuel station for longer. We think it's a good direction to be moving for the future.
